NETWATCH
The NRM, one of the two partners in the Institute of Railway Studies & Transport History at the
University of York, yesterday announced a wide-ranging restructuring. As part of this, all
direct financial support from the NRM to the IRS&TH will be withdrawn by the end of the current
financial year. The NRM and the University of York intend to retain the Institute and
discussions are in hand about its future development. As a result of these changes, Prof Colin
Divall will be leaving his post as head of the Institute on 14th February 2014 and take early
retirement, although he will continue (on a part-time basis) as Professor of Railway Studies in
the University of York until November 2015, solely to supervise his existing research students.
The Institute's lectureship is not affected. Dr Sinha is currently on research leave until the
summer of 2015. This term's programme of research workshops will continue, but will not then
resume for the foreseeable future. No more applications will be accepted for any of the
Institute's teaching and research programmes before the 2015-16 session at the earliest.
However, the Centre for Lifelong Learning is intending to offer a new Postgraduate Diploma in
Railway Studies from the 2014-15 session.
This move has not yet been reflected on the Internet, but was predicted in this news item...
